THINGS TO DO
Cornwall is so diverse in its geography and facilities no-one ever sees or does it all! Which is why so many of our guests return year after year to sample more of this wonder county of Cornwall or Kernow as the native speakers call it.
It's difficult to know where to start! Cornwall has so many and varied beaches. The south coast is on the English Channel and is gentle and often sheltered. Our nearest is Polkerris, 15 mins drive, which is very suitable for small children, has a pub set on the harbour wall and a popular restaurant in the old lifeboat station as well as a beach shop and water sports facilities. The rugged and beautiful north coast beaches are generally larger, and being on the Atlantic coast produce the large rolling waves for great surfing. We like Mawgan Porth, it is only 30 minutes drive from Chark, but there are many others, each having unique character. If you don't mind a bit of a walk or a scramble, and don't need the facilities, we can direct you to beautiful beaches that are less well known and not too full even at the busiest times of summer. We can supply beach towels if you have not brought yours.
Boat trips are available from Fowey, Mevagissey, Looe and Padstow etc. Some provide fishing trips to catch your own mackerel at seasonal times. It's a great way to view the beautiful coastline and the local wildlife including sea birds such as puffins and guillemots, seals and if you are lucky a pod of dolphins or even a basking shark!
Our e-bikes are available to guests to loan and make it possible to explore many surrounding areas. There is the popular Camel Trail, a flat off road track from Bodmin to Padstow on the north coast, the St Austell clay trails with magnificent views to name but a few. We can provide tried and tested round trips which you can download onto your smartphone to guide you round. If you bring your own bike we can lock it away safely and you can get a reduced entry price to Eden Project if you arrive by bike.
.GOLF
There is a picturesque Golf Course 5 minutes drive along the road https://www.lanhydrockhotel.com/golf and in Lostwithiel a quirky 9 hole course owned by Tim Smit of Heligan and Eden project fame https://www.gillyflowerfarm.com/the-course
Most of the North Coast beaches offer surfing lessons, and hire boards and wetsuits. The South Coast is more geared to kayaking and paddle boarding etc
There are lovely walks either direct from the farm, or a short drive away. You can walk to NT Lanhydrock House from here, or a 5 minute drive. Our local beauty spot is Helman Tor where you can see from coast to coast. The beautiful Luxulyan Valley is a little known gem with miles of walks and points of historic interest. The famous Fowey Hall walk is very popular and scenic.
We are near to many places to visit such as NT Lanhydrock House, Bodmin Jail, Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan (*when you have booked your holiday we can give you a discount code for a lower entry price*) and many gardens. There are so many charming fishing villages to explore, as well as rugged and beautiful Bodmin Moor. The list is endless! Regular guests never run out of new places to go and nor do we!
